New to the Mac? Check out TUAW's Mac 101

Autodesk Aquires Alias

Alias, formerly Alias|Wavefront, no longer use any of those names, now it's just Autodesk.  Today, Autodesk announced their merger is a done deal, and now Maya, the 3d composition program, is made by Autodesk.  Autodesk has gone on a buying spree as of late, acquiring Discreet as well.  The good news?  Now, it'll be even easier to get meta-data from your Maya scenes into Combustion.  The bad news?  Less competition between 3ds Max and Maya.  At least there's always good ol' Newtek with Lightwave to help motivate each other.
